Vocational Discernment Process for Lay Consecrated Men of Regnum Christi

A young man who practices the Christian life and has come into contact with Regnum Christi may express the desire to begin a vocational discernment process. This is a period of personal discernment to get to know the lifestyle, charism, and mission of the Lay Consecrated Men of Regnum Christi.

During this initial stage, vocational accompaniment and activities are offered, organized in each territory or locality. It is also possible to have a vocational experience by living in a community of lay consecrated men for a period of time.

PREPARATION TO BE A LAY CONSECRATED MAN

First steps in discerning a vocation as a Lay Consecrated Man

1. Life in Regnum Christi

Since this is a vocation within Regnum Christi, anyone interested in knowing or discerning a vocation as a Lay Consecrated Man of Regnum Christi must first have a deep knowledge of Regnum Christi. To do this, they are invited to participate to the best of their ability in the life of a Regnum Christi section, trying to deepen in the spiritual life, team life, formation, apostolate, and accompaniment offered by Regnum Christi.

2. Spiritual Direction

Among all the means that Regnum Christi offers its members, it is particularly encouraged that anyone who wishes to begin a discernment process have a spiritual director from Regnum Christi. The frequent practice of spiritual direction can help them lead a mature spiritual life aimed at listening to God and discover His will in their own life.

3. Vocational accompaniment by a Lay Consecrated Man of Regnum Christi

Once there is sufficient knowledge of Regnum Christi and with the help of a spiritual director, the support of a vocational companion is offered by the Lay Consecrated Men of Regnum Christi. With them, there will be periodic dialogue aimed at specifically discerning a possible vocation. This vocational companion will help establish an itinerary to further understand the specific vocation and help them identify some objective elements of discernment. The process will also focus on self-knowledge and for the lay consecrated men getting to know the interested person.

4. Intensify Spiritual Life

During this period, with the guidance of their spiritual director, the aspirant must intensify their prayer life, create spaces of silence and reflection in their daily life, frequent the sacraments, and read and meditate on the Word of God. In this way, listening to God will be facilitated by identifying the elements through which He speaks to each one in their interior and facilitating the discernment process.

5. Gatherings and vocational experiences

In agreement with their vocational companion, the aspirants will be invited to participate in activities that allow them to experience the life of the Lay Consecrated Men. This activities include vocational gatherings, visits to the communities of the lay consecrated men and taking part in various apostolic experiences with them.

6. Community Experience

In some cases, living for a period of time in one of the communities of the Lay Consecrated Men can be offered as a special means to continue the discernment process.

7. Discernment Course

Once the previous process is completed,if there are sufficient elements for a possible vocation to the consecrated lay life in Regnum Christi, the aspirant may be invited to participate in the Discernment Course, which is an intensive period of prayer and discernment for approximately one month, followed by an eight-day spiritual exercises.

8. Candidacy

After finishing the Discernment Course, if the Society of Apostolic Life and the aspirant consider that there are sufficient elements to assume that there may be an authentic call to this vocation, the aspirant will request to enter the Candidacy, which lasts for two years. The purpose of this period is to offer initial formation for this vocation and as a period of deeper discernment before the profession of vows of consecration. During these two years, the candidates will dedicate themselves full-time to human and spiritual formation, as well as acquiring the habits of a consecrated life, and getting to know in-depth the charism and life of the Lay Consecrated Men of Regnum Christi. At the end of these two years, if the Society of Apostolic Life and the candidate consider that there is a calling, the candidate will request admission to the profession of temporary vows. They will take their first vows for three years and continue their formation.
